Lawless electric drag bike shockingly silent!

Published on February 11, 2011 by Doug Ray of DragBike Live

What a cold harsh winter it has been for all drag racers! The 2011 season is just  weeks away from getting started beginning with the MiRock Series opener on March 19-20 2011 at Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham North Carolina. All of us here at Dragbike Live are ready!

The off season for the staff has been full of infrastructure improvements with this website  along with our video tools and much more.

In the next few days I will release  additional information on many of the new features coming and explain more in depth our plans for the 2011 season.

While finalizing a few of the new features the staff decided to release a few of the all new videos we have finished final editing on to “zap” you back into shape for the new season. This release is favorite of mine for a few reasons. It is an all electric drag bike built around a Top Fuel design and it is “shockingly” too quiet!

Dragbike Live was on location at the Manufacturers Cup Finals held November 12-14 2010 at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Georgia and caught nearly all the action from beginning to end that weekend. In the next few weeks we are releasing a few of the editors picks (mine) for  short films and this is just the first from a complete DVD to be released of the 2010 Manufacturers Cup Finals in the spring.

Shane Lawless (he is the guy preparing McBride in pic below)  of Lawless Industries exhibited his now famous world record setting all electric drag bike, that was featured on the TLC Channel’s American Chopper. Larry “Spiderman” Mcbride,9 Time Top Fuel World Champion piloted the bike. I had camera in hand and rolling film as the team made one of a few passes down the 1320 that weekend.

Default resolution for the film is 360, for best all around sound and look change it to 480.
720 and 1080 High Definition is also a option if your connection can handle it. Enjoy!

Now,I am no stranger to Top Fuel drag racing nor being real close to them on the starting line. But I can tell you this was a new experience for me to film.

I have to admit I was thrown off a bit from the lack of no ground pounding rumbling of the engine. I thought to myself. This is strange! No sound? Hey wait a minute, this is way cool!  You can see how close I was to the rear of the bike at the starting line in the film.

What happened next is captured in the film when the all electric bike ripped away from the starting line. Normally we all are expecting loud  noise, not so with this bike. With  no expectation of the engine hitting full rpm, I was not expecting  anything out of the usual. So, I was relaxed and waiting to get that perfect shot.

The real big “volt” came from the slick! It is truly awesome to be that close to the bike and hear what we normally do not, the tire hooking! You can see how it  surprised me by the jerk in the camera, but I recovered quickly and got the shot with just being a little late on the zoom.

I can tell you this scared the BA JESUS out of me by the sound of that slick hooking to the track at launch! Take a look as I am sure this  film will “spark” your interest and get you “amped” up, non pun intended. This could be the future “shock wave”! :-)
